Russian mercenaries step up firing at their own positions, - ATО press center

The situation in the ATO area remains stable and controlled by Ukrainian troops.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by the ATO press center on its Facebook page.

According to the headquarters, from 6 p.m. till midnight on July 5 pro-Russian illegal armed units were shelling the ATO forces positions more than 20 times. Militants used weapons banned by the Minsk agreements twice.

"It happened at 9.10 p.m. near the village of Pervomaiske, where for half an hour pro-Russian terrorists fired 122-mm artillery and tanks. Also, from 9.15 p.m. till 9.40 p.m. near the village of Pisky militants shelled the ATO troops positions from 122-mm artillery, and from 10 p.m. they started to fire a tank and small arms," the statement reads.

It is reported that the militants were mostly delivering harassing fire at the ATO forces positions near the following Luhansk region villages: Stanytsia Luhanska, Shchastia, Syze, Bolotiane, Krymske. In Donetsk region Marinka, Opytne, Pervomaiske, Pisky, Troitske, Lozove, Zolote and Luhanske were shelled by militants. In Mariupol direction - Starohnativka, Bakhchevyk, Mykolaivka, Chermalyk.

"From midnight till 6 a.m. July 6, the number of firings at the Ukrainian army positions decreased considerably. Krymske and Avdiivka were fired from small arms. A drone flight was recorded over Luhansk region," the statement reads.

However, according to the ATO headquarters, the cases when Russian mercenaries open fire at their own positions became more often: "The aim of these attacks - to go on squalling about violation of the Minsk agreements by Ukrainian military through false Russian propaganda, especially before tomorrow's meeting of the contact group. Ukrainian servicemen fire back at militants using weaponry unprohibited by the Minsk agreements and only in the case of direct threat to lives of military or Donbas civilians".
