President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with delegation of the U.S. Congress that will soon take part in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session in Helsinki, Finland.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by the head of state press service.

Poroshenko called the visit of the U.S. delegation to Ukraine on the eve of the U.S. Independence Day and the OSCE PA session a symbol of strong strategic partnership between the countries.

"We are grateful for efficient coordination of our efforts in the implementation of the Minsk agreements and ensuring international unity and solidarity with Ukraine, where the U.S. plays a very important role," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

"Ukraine constantly receives assistance from one of the strongest armies in the world in military, military-technical, financial and security spheres, as well as moral support, which is very important, for it plays a key role for the unity, protection of our values and democracy. The unity of the whole world is crucial for us today and it would be impossible without the United States," the president noted.

The head of state emphasized Ukrainians' commitment to the European choice and intention to reform the country. "We are a European nation. Ukrainians have a right to live in Europe, establish democratic standards and defend their values," Petro Poroshenko said.

The president also highlighted the necessity of coordination of efforts of the world community in case of escalation and disruption of the Minsk process. "We need an efficient and coordinated plan in case of failure of the Minsk agreements. It goes about a new wave of sanctions and well-coordinated actions. Russia must pay fair price for the murder of Ukrainians and occupation of Ukraine. It must be responsible for that," the head of state stressed.

The president expressed gratitude to the U.S. for the organization of military training at Yavoriv training center. "I believe this program is extremely efficient for the reinforcement of the Ukrainian armed forces. It is useful not only for us, but also for the U.S., because we have a 1-year unique experience of "hybrid" war," Petro Poroshenko said.

The president underlined the importance of further enhancement of military cooperation, particularly in the context of improving the defense capacity of Ukraine.

In the course of the conversation, congressmen assured that the U.S. pays significant attention to the developments in Ukraine. They recalled the Ukrainian president's speech in the U.S. Congress, when Petro Poroshenko urged the U.S. to support Ukraine in its struggle for democracy. They assured that Ukraine has a powerful bipartisan support in the United States. Congressmen noted powerful legislative initiatives regarding our country, particularly the adoption of Ukraine Freedom Support Act.

The meeting was attended by U.S. senator, co-chair of the Helsinki Commission Roger Wicker, congressmen Robert Aderholt, Stephen Cohen, Gwen Moore, Richard Hudson and Michael Fitzpatrick.
