Foreign ministers of the European Union can decide to extend sanctions against Russia till the end of January, 2016, on the upcoming Monday.

"This is a compromise which can be achieved between 28 EU members," he wrote in press release on Sunday.

He commented on the possible extension of sanctions that "the situation in eastern Ukraine has not improved; the current truce was violated dozens of times a day over the past weeks, and, in addition, the Crimea is still annexed by Russia."

Paet said that "some may have doubts on sanctions against Russia. However, there are no logical explanations for easing or cancelling sanctions as long as Russia does not stop its aggression against Ukraine and Ukraine does not restore its territorial integrity."
