"Right after Lortkipanidze was appointed new Interior Ministry Regional Department head in the Odesa region, a person came to the dept to file a claim that one of the colleges' professor demanded a bribe for enrollment. Next morning, this professor was arrested. A line of those who wish to file claims appeared at the regional Interior Administration," Saakashvili said about newly appointed head of Interior Ministry administration in the region Lortkipanidze. He also said Lortkipanidze would sack a number of key officials in his department who are not competent and trustworthy.
"On Wednesday, I spent a day in a business trip to Tatarbunary using an ordinary passenger bus. It turned out to be a great way to learn about how people were going and to feel what the regional infrastructure is," the governor said.
"The road between Odesa and Reni is totally destroyed. I have seen great beaches of the Odesa region, its agriculture, people who want to work, but I haven't seen the infrastructure. We won't be able to enhance the economy without roads. We have to construct roads not because this is beautiful, but because roads are the nerves of the economy," Saakashvili commented as quoted by Butusov.
