 Russia announces 10 airborne battalions ready for operations abroad

More than a dozen airborne and air assault battalions ready to respond immediately to 'sudden threats to Russia's security' have been formed as part of the airborne forces of the Russian Federation.

This was stated by commander of the airborne troops, colonel-general Vladimir Shamanov, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-AVN.

"For immediate countering of military threats from any direction we currently have more than 10 battalions of the airborne forces, who are able to immediately proceed to combat missions both in Russia and abroad," he said.

He added that "the rapid response battalions immediate were provided with modern means of strengthening and support, as well as the necessary number of military transport aviation." According to Shamanov, in the course of creating Rapid Response forces on the base of the Airborne troops the number of such battalions will significantly increase.
