 Ukrainians residing in the territories occupied by Russia are now able to file lawsuits against the aggressor state, Justice Minister says

The citizens, whose human rights have been violated as a result of the occupation, now have the opportunity to file claims against Russia.

Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko told in the interview to Channel 5, explaining the formal appeal of Ukraine to the European Parliament on the derogation from certain obligations of Ukraine under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in connection with the occupation of its territories and violations of human rights by the aggressor state which is Russia, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainska Pravda.

"This means that those human rights violations that are taking place in the occupied territories are committed by the Russian troops, the Russian terrorists," he said. "It means that our citizens are now able to claim compensation for damages caused by the loss of property, torture and other human rights violations committed namely by the Russian Federation," Petrenko said.
