 Entire Ukraine is building the defense line, Poroshenko says

The overall cost of the construction of fortifications is estimated at about one billion hryvnia.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said in the course of the working trip to Donetsk region where he has examined the construction of fortifications. The Head of State had no serious remarks regarding the construction, Censor.NET reports citing the president's press office.

According to the president, due to the Minsk agreements, Ukraine got time to catch one's breath and carry out measures on the enhancement of defense.

The president has informed that the construction of overall about 300 fortifications was planned. 100 fortified centers have already been completed. This work is being carried out by the Armed Forces in close interaction with local administrations. Each of 21 regional state administrations fulfills its share of work. "The entire Ukraine is building the defense line," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The president has noted the unprecedented character of the volume and pace of the construction. The construction is planned to be finished by the middle of July. The first project has been amended several times in accordance with new engineering solutions. According to him, the hardest part was to carry out work on the first defense line.

The president has stressed that peacetime procedures and market mechanisms, inter alia, tenders had been used despite the fact that the construction took place at wartime. The overall cost of the construction is estimated at about 1 billion hryvnia (about $47,500,000).

The Head of State has noted a high level of interaction between the power branches in the given process. When there was a lack of regulatory acts, the president initiated amendments to the legislation, which were promptly approved by the Verkhovna Rada.

"We must work 24/7 to defend our state," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The president examined the fortified center - a system of communications, control and observation center, shelter, trench system and defensive metal-concrete containers.
