As Censor.NET reports with reference to "Gordon", the Odesa region governor Mykhail Saakashvili said in an interview to the Russian journalist Kseniia Sobchak.
"At least one billion dollar a year is being stolen. Such scales were not imaginable in Georgia even in the 1990s," he said.
According to Saakashvili, as soon as Odesa citizens see that the real corruption fight began, they will resume their businesses observing the law and filling the state budget.
"As soon as we restore order and at least relative truce comes, people will understand everything. The Odesa region has a vast potential, and when arbitrariness stops, police begins its work, people will also start to work. The citizens of Odesa are enterprising people, very interesting and sociable," Saakashvili emphasized.
To his mind, the Odesa region is similar to Georgia in 1990s. "You see the same problems - corruption, idle police, crimes. We'll fix it," the governor said.
Saakashvili said that in his program he is planning to rebuild the customs completely. For convenience of the businessmen there will be a center organized where the goods will be able to get customs clearance in 15 minutes. He pointed out that in that regard a process of changing the head of the Odesa customs was stopped. The new head of customs will be appointed on a competitive basis.
