Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak assumes there will be an assault at Mariupol, the Donetsk region, by mercenaries and Russian soldiers with the aim of cutting way to the Russia-annexed Crimea.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrainski Novyny, he said this at a Ukraine-NATO inter-parliamentary meeting.

"I believe that Mr. Putin has not abandoned his idea to get to Crimea through Mariupol. Activities in Shyrokyne are one of the evidences to this," the minister said.

Poltorak also believes that the explosion of a coast guard motorboat of the State Border Service near Mariupol on June 7 is a confirmation of sabotage activity within the Ukraine's water zone of the Azov sea.
