 SBU smashed a ring organized by customs officers and border guards in the Odesa region

The Anti-corruption Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region stopped the activities of the organized criminal group of customs officers and border guards.

Censor.NET reports citing the SBU press-service.

According to the report, the group consistently extorted and illegally received money for avoiding of customs clearance and unimpeded passage across the state border of Ukraine by the citizens of Moldova.

The SBU in conjunction with the Prosecutor General's Office detained red-handed senior inspector of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi customs post and two warrant officers of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi border guard detachment.

The Security Service of Ukraine has also documented evidence of bribery by other employees of the tax and fiscal services in the Odesa region.

Besides, the SBU established that extortion and corrupt acts have been consistently taking place on the crossing points of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border. The inspector handed the bribe over to the shift supervisor. The shift supervisor shared the bribe with the chief of the department of customs clearance, who in turn shared it with the head of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi customs post of the Odesa customs.

The criminal proceedings were opened under Part 3of the Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is underway.
