State Border Guard Service declares military and other threats from Transnistria

The State Border Guard Service stated about the military threat coming from the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

State Border Guard Service Chairman Viktor Nazarenko said in an interview to Channel 5, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"The menace from the side of Transnistria is both of military and, so to say, border-technological nature... We believe that this section is threatening in terms of security of the border," he said.

At the same time Nazarenko emphasized that the threat of war in this part of the border is much less than on its eastern sections. The problem of foodstuffs smuggling from Transnistria and illegal activities of the local residents is much more important for the border guards. The northern and southern sections of the state border are also complicated in terms of the border security.
