Yesterday Ukraine was hit by thunderstorms. Due to the storms on the night of May 27, 167 towns in nine regions were left without electricity.

This is stated by the State Service for Emergency Situations, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainian News.

According to the ministry, as a result of adverse weather conditions (rain, squally wind), systems of power line protection cut off 167 towns and villages in nine regions: Lviv - 45, Volyn - 38, Zhytomyr - 28, Ternopil - 19, Ivano-Frankivsk - 15, Kyiv - 8, Dnipropetrovsk - 7, Cherkasy - 5, and Kirovohrad - 2.

Repair crews of power companies are restoring the power.

The city of Lviv also suffered from heavy rains. Poltva river has burst its banks causing locals to switch to canoes and boats. People were unable to leave buildings due to actual rivers on the streets, TSN reports.

Meteorologists predict that on Wednesday, May 27, the weather will significantly deteriorate. The temperature will be 10-15 degrees with squalls, rain and hail.

"On the whole territory of the Lviv region there will be heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms with hail will occur mainly in the west of our region and the Carpathians. During thunderstorms there will be gusts and squalls of north-west wind with speeds of 17-22 m/s," Head of the Forecast Center of the Lviv Hydrometeorology Center Larysa Lutsan stated.

Such weather conditions are being caused by a powerful Balkan cyclone. The forecasts promise better weather for the weekend.

Kyiv residents were delighted with the night storm posting pictures of lightning on the Internet.
