As reported by Censor.NET citing Liga, this was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview to Dozhd TV channel.
NATO provides political supports and helps Ukraine reform its army. The Alliance, Stoltenberg said, cannot decide on supplying weapons to Ukraine, for this is not within the competence of the Alliance member countries' governments.
According to Secretary General, if Ukraine applies for NATO membership, the application will be considered just like any other one.
The decision on whether Georgia and Ukraine should be granted membership will be made by 28 NATO countries, Stoltenberg said.
According to him, no country outside the Alliance should be able to veto or prevent an independent country from accession to NATO.
Stoltenberg also said it was unacceptable that a country like Russia annexed part of Ukraine and continues to destabilize its eastern part.
As reported earlier, Stoltenberg previously said that NATO's stance on stopping practical cooperation with Russia remains unchanged.
