 Unidentified man took two pharmacy employees hostage in Odesa. He surrendered to the law enforcers after negotiations - Interior Ministry

An unidentified individual took two workers of a pharmacy in Odesa hostage today, at about 2.30 p.m. and then agreed to exchange them for a police colonel.

Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Odesa City Police Department.

"Today, at 2.30 p.m., the police have received a report that an unidentified individual took two workers of the pharmacy located on Panteleimonivska Street hostage at gunpoint," the statement reads.

The police officers arrived at the scene and the offender has been persuaded to release the hostages in exchange for one of the police officers.

Odessa Region Police Deputy Chief Colonel Dmytro Holovin had exchanged himself for the women who were taken hostage.

The Police kept negotiating with the man to establish the reasons that forced him to commit such actions.

According to Dumskaia, the man has surrendered to police after the negotiations. The pistol was seized from him.

According to the preliminary information, the attacker demanded money allegedly required for medical treatment of his sick mother, who was in one of the city hospitals.
