 Cooperation of Ukraine with Slovakia allowed us to stop the Gazprom monopoly - Poroshenko

Cooperation with Slovakia in the energy sector allowed us to provide Ukraine with gas and stop the Gazprom monopoly.

President Petro Poroshenko said at a joint briefing with the President of Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska, Censor.NET reports with reference to UNIAN.

"Security position has been in the first place in the talks today," he said.

Poroshenko noted that not only the security and political cooperation issues have been discussed, but also the questions of economic cooperation as well as coordination in the energy sector.

"I can only state that cooperation of Ukraine and Slovakia in the energetics, first of all in the gas supplies can be called an undoubted success. Our cooperation allowed us to ensure the energy securuty of Europe, to supply gas to Ukraine, and for the first time in 23 years cooperation of Ukraine and Slovakia with other partners, Poland, Hungary allowed to stop the Gazprom monopoly today," the Head of State said.

As to him, during the talks, agreement was also reached on holding the meeting of the intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation.

Poroshenko thanked the President and the Slovak people for their strong position in condemning the Russian aggression.

Andrej Kiska, in his turn, said that Slovakia will further supply gas to Ukraine via reverse. "Slovakia is supplying gas to Ukraine via reverse and today President Poroshenko highly appreciated that. We are ready to fully uphold that reverse stream. We have been speaking a lot about that, about the energy security of Europe and about our mutual steps that could support the energy security of our countries. The reverse stream will work and we are absolutely ready to support Ukraine in that issue," said the Slovak President.
