 Deputy Mayor of Ternopil detained for 217,000 hryvnia bribe - Prosecutor General's Office

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) together with Interior Ministry personnel exposed illegal activities of the corrupt deputy chairman of Ternopil, Ternopil regional council lawmaker, who, abusing his official position, systematically demanded and received illegal profit for granting the use of land in the city.

This is stated by the press service of the PGO, Censor.NET reports.

In particular, during the search, law enforcement officers seized 135,000 hryvnia, which he demanded and received from a citizen for lease of land.

According to the PGO, the deputy mayor demanded and received illegal profit totaling 217,000 hryvnia.

"The deputy mayor was detained under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code on suspicion of committing a criminal offense of corruption under pt. 3, Art. 368 (acceptance of offer, promise or obtaining undue profit by an official) of the Criminal Code, which is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to occupy corresponding positions," the statement says.

Investigative and operational-search measures aimed at collecting and recording evidence are underway; the matter of electing the measure of restraint in respect to the detainee is being decided.

The procedural guidance in the proceedings is conducted by the PGO.
