 'We have not achieved what we wanted to in Donbas' - Merkel commented on Minsk II implementation

There are no alternatives to the Minsk cease-fire deal despite the fact that it has not been observed in full.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said prior to the meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in Berlin on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

The head of German government assured that the Minsk accords were the platform for further actions. Merkel also said that Germany together with France would make every effort to achieve this goal.

German Chancellor also informed that she discussed the Minsk Agreements with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday and added that they were planning to keep moving forward in this format though it would be difficult.

The chancellor stated that they have not achieved what they wanted to. According to Merkel, there was no complete cease-fire reached, meaning Shyrokyne and Donetsk airport.

She also praised the start of the working groups' activity, which should implement the Minsk agreements step by step, saying that it was essential that these groups were actively working.

The Chancellor named the exchange of prisoners an important issue for it had not been resolved as well.
