 Parliament adopts law on martial law regime

The Verkhovna Rada voted for bill #2541 "On legal regime of martial law" in second reading and in principle.

According to Censor.NET correspondent, the decision was supported by 258 deputies.

The law provides for settlement of the legal regime of martial law considering the circumstances arising from external aggression and conducting the anti-terrorist operation in the Eastern Ukraine.

As stated in the explanatory memorandum, the law provides for the increase of range and detailing the measures of martial law, introduces guarantees of the activities of the president of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada and more clearly regulates the procedure for imposition and lifting of the legal regime of martial law, normalizes the order of activities and powers of the military command, public authorities under the martial law, the military administration - temporary government bodies established by the president of Ukraine in the areas for where martial law is declared to ensure the constitution and laws of Ukraine, providing the introduction and implementation of the legal regime of martial law, defense, public order and safety, protection of rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens together with military commanders.

In the course of discussion of the bill, the norm on withdrawal of weapons from legal gun owners during martial law was removed.
