Katerynivka is a village in the Luhansk region which has officially joined the Ukraine-controlled territory. It is located behind the demarcation line and a Ukrainian checkpoint, thus mercenaries regularly come into the village, as reported by locals. Apparently, one of the terrorists' sabotage and reconnaissance group must have installed a land mine recently, and blew it up when a Ukrainian combat reconnaissance patrol vehicle was passing by.
"I came to Katerynivka a month ago, on April 5, to make decision on its official annexation to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine," Hennadii Moskal, head of the Luhansk civil-military administration, said. "Our delegation was convoyed by a Ukrainian BRDM. The military agreed to come with us, knowing that militants might be in the village. They did protect us then, but could not save themselves now, unfortunately. Never forget the guys, they died as heroes protecting Ukraine's sovereignity," Moskal added.
