 Forest fire near Chornobyl NPP isolated. Radiation level is within norms, there is no threat – State Emergency Service

The fire situation near the Chornobyl nuclear power plant has shown great improvement.

Acting Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Zorian Shkiriak wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"Here is the latest update on fire in the exclusion zone: The situation has improved significantly. The forest fire front was localized. The situation is 100% controlled. There are virtually no more spots of open fire left," he wrote.

According to Shkiriak, the fire keeps spreading to small brunches of young trees, but such cases are rare and depend on wind blows.

In addition, the grass and burnt trees keep smoldering in large territory.

"Our water bombing aircrafts have been working since the morning efficiently extinguishing the remaining islands of fire. The radiation background level is within the norms - there is no threat. Everybody, please, stay calm! The general work is under way. All the units and equipment of the State Emergency Service attracted to extinguish the fire in the exclusion zone are on-site and are continuously making efforts to localize the fire. The Emergency Service informs me of the progress each hour. I have no doubts that we can handle it. Everything will be fine! Glory to Ukraine!" Shkiryak added.
