The Security Service of Ukraine arrested two police investigators in downtown Kyiv on suspicion of taking bribes Tuesday.

Adviser to the head of the SBU Markiian Lubkivskyi wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"The officers of the Security Service of Ukraine Main Directorate in Kyiv and the Kyiv region in conjunction with Kyiv prosecutors and the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine detained two investigators of one of the capital's district police departments. The perpetrators extorted $5,000 from a citizen of Ukraine for his release from criminal prosecution as well as the return of material evidence to him within the pre-trial investigation," he wrote.

"The law enforcers were caught red-handed while receiving the bribe. Urgent investigative actions are currently underway," Lubkivskyi concluded.

The detention took place in the heart of the city on Volodymyrska Street near Zoloti Vorota subway station.
