Gazprom claims that Naftogaz owes $174.2 million for supply of gas to the terrorists-occupied territory

Russian gas monopoly Gazprom declares that National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine has run into debt for $174.2 million as of April 21 for gas supplies to the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions uncontrolled by Ukraine’s government, and considers it necessary to conclude a separate direct contract for the supply of gas in this region.

Ukrainski Novyny reports citing the statement of Gazprom, Censor.NET informs.

"The only issue of concern is related to the supply of gas to the southeast (of Ukraine - Ed.). Gazprom has delivered 554.6 million cubic meters of gas to the consumers in the southeast (of Ukraine - Ed.) since the beginning of the year as of April 21. The total debt of Naftogaz on these deliveries has reached $174.2 million. This issue should become subject to special negotiations and we think that it makes sense to consider the possibility of concluding a separate direct contract with Gazprom for the supply of gas to the southeast," Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexey Miller said.

He added that "Gazprom" keeps providing stable gas supply to Ukraine.

"The prepayment received from Naftogaz of Ukraine for April's deliveries amounted to $75.85 million including the surplus from March's prepayment. 180.7 million cubic meters of gas were delivered over two decades of April according to the orders of Naftogaz. All disputable questions, except for the debt for gas supplied to Naftogaz last year, are resolved. Current gas supplies are governed solely by the operational contract from 2009," Miller said.

According to him, the discount on gas provided by the Government of Russia, and the decision not to impose penalties under the take-or-pay conditions does not require signing of any additional documents.

Ukrainski Novyny reported earlier that on April 1, Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC and the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom agreed on supplies of gas to Ukraine at the price of $247.18 per thousand of cubic meters in the second quarter.

According to the agreement, the take-or-pay conditions will not be applied during this period while the gas supplies will be carried out on a prepaid basis.
