Russian court sentences Crimean activist from Ukraine to seven years

Ukrainian citizen Oleksii Chirnii, accused by Putin's regime of preparing a terrorist attack on May 9, 2014 in Simferopol, was found guilty and sentenced to seven years in a penal colony.

The sentence was passed by North Caucasus district military court in Rostov-on-Don, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax.

Chirnii was charged with crimes under paragraph 5 pt. Art. 205, pt. 3 Art. 205, pt. 3 Art. 30, pt. 3 Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

On May 30 last year, the Russian FSB announced detainment of "members of Right Sector terrorist group" - Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov, Hennadii Afanasiev, Oleksii Chirnii, and Oleksandr Kolchenko - on suspicion of preparing sabotage and terrorist attacks in the cities of the peninsula.

On Dec. 25 the Moscow City Court found Afanasiev guilty under Part 2 Article 205 of the Criminal Code (a terrorist act) and sentenced him to seven years in a penal colony. His case has been moved to a separate proceeding and heard in a special order, since he entered a plea bargain.

Sentsov is being held in a Moscow jail. On April 8 the Lefortovo court of Moscow extended his arrest until May 11.
