 Yatseniuk ordered to tighten security measures before May holidays

He emphasized personal responsibility of officers from the Interior Ministry, the Security Service, and the National Guard for implementation of security enhancement measures.

"I have instructed the SBU and the entire law enforcement system to strengthen security measures in the country before the May holidays," the prime minister said at a Cabinet meeting in Kyiv on Friday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

According to Yatseniuk, the situation in the country is extremely difficult, therefore law enforcement and intelligence agencies must ensure the security of citizens and combat any form of terrorism and separatism.

"There is no doubt that the anti-Ukrainian forces will try to use celebration of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and other holidays in May for destabilization of the situation. Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the entire law enforcement system should take [the situation] under special control, deploy patrols to the streets, and make citizens' safety and order their main priorities," the prime minister said.

He emphasized personal responsibility of officers from the Interior Ministry, the Security Service, and the National Guard for implementation of security measures.

Yatseniuk also instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Emergency Service to organize a meeting of the Emergency Commission next week, and the Interior Ministry to hold a separate meeting with heads of regional offices, and provide a report by Wednesday, April 22.
