Local elections shall be held on Oct. 25. There will be no postponement - Poroshenko

Ukraine's local elections will be held this fall.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko speaking at the Ternopil Regional State Administration on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Decentralization involves the transfer of a lion's share of authority to territorial communities, which, I hope, will eventually happen after the local elections, which are to be held on Oct. 25. There will be no postponement. In their dreams! The local elections will happen exactly the way I dealt with parliamentary elections, since the only power holder in the state is the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian citizens," the president said.

He reminded that the proposals for decentralization had already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada and sent to the Constitutional Court.

According to Poroshenko, the amendments propose to transfer most of the authority to communities "to reduce the distance between a citizen and a person who makes decisions."
