"Yesterday, former deputy chief of the SES Vasyl Stoietskyi paid the bail in the amount of 1,182,000 UAH and got out of jail with a commitment to come to investigatory actions and to court. The bail [procedure] is regretfully specified in the court's ruling, and provided by the Criminal Procedure Code of 2012 including articles on corruption by senior officials.
"Today, the same attempt to bail Serhii Bochkovskyi was blocked by the SFM, which has the right to verify legal origin of funds that are to be used as collateral," the adviser to the head of the Interior Ministry said.
"According to him, if it is determined that the money offered as bail has a criminal origin, it will result in another criminal case. In addition, in cases of embezzlement and corruption, the investigator and the prosecutor will demand arrest of Bochkovskyi's and Stoietskyi's property.
"In turn, I, as a lawmaker introduced bill #2330, according to which the courts - in cases of high-ranking corrupt officials, in cases of large-scale bribery cases involving terrorism, separatism, sabotage - will have the ability to rule on detaining [the accused] until the end of the investigation with no alternative," Herashchenko concluded.
