The convict Russian Airborne officer was depurged and moved up for participation in the undeclared war against Ukraine.

Investigative blogger Irakli Komakhidze wrote in his article for Informnapalm, Censor.NET reports.

"37 years-old hereditary military Colonel Roman Yuvakaiev is the commander of the 247th Airborne Assault Regiment (military base No. 54801, deployed in Stavropol), which is part of the 7th Airborne Division. He studied at the 83rd school in Tbilisi. Later he graduated the Higher Airborne Command School in Ryazan. He served in various units of the airborne troops of Russia, including the 51st Airborne Regiment of the 106th Airborne Division in Tula. Roman's 64 years-old father Rustam Yunakaiev lives in the city of Ryazan. He served in the Western Group of Forces in the GDR in the times of the Soviet Union and later in the Transcaucasian Military District in Georgia. His 63 years-old mother Yelena Yuvakaieva also lives in the city of Ryazan," the blogger wrote.

The Russian Defense Ministry newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda (the red star) archive from June 29, 2009 reads: "Colonel R. Yuvakaiev is former commander of the Airborne battalion. He had freed his subordinate junior sergeant from the duties of military service for a bribe of 10,000 rubles by having provided him the opportunity to depart home. Roman Yuvakaiev submitted false information to his command that his subordinate is allegedly at the training center. Besides, this enterprising commander has extended his subordinate's 'vacation' twice for a monthly fee of 15,000 rubles. The Ryazan garrison Military Court had convicted Roman Yuvakaiev. His sentence had taken effect."

Roman Yunakaiev was decorated with the "Medal for Commitment to Airborne Brotherhood" a year earlier.

Colonel Roman Yuvakaiev hosted visiting dignitaries in Stavropol on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the creation of the 247th Regiment a week ago.

Reference: The 247th Air Assault Regiment, one of the youngest military units in the Airborne Forces, was created on the basis of the Air Assault Brigade deployed in the city of Kutaisi, Georgia. It was later redeployed to Stavropol and subordinated to the 7th Air Assault Division Jan. 1, 1998. The regiment took part in the Afghan war, the engagements in the North Caucasus, as well as Russian aggression against Georgia in August 2008. The 247th regiment has been involved in the undeclared war against Ukraine since 2014. Its soldiers participated in the capture of Crimea and hostilities in the Donbas.
