He confirmed that SBU officer Dmytro Manzik was shot in the head in Volnovakha city during the operation on detention of the trucks with smuggled goods. The name of the suspect who might have pulled the trigger is Denys Hordieiev.
Three persons suspected of abetting the murder were arrested shortly after and are in custody in Volnovakha, the Donetsk region. One of them was injured during the arrest.
Six more people were detained on Saturday and Sunday. According to Nalyvaichenko, the detainees are suspected of kidnapping and torture as well. All inquiries related to this group, including the murder of the SBU officer, were combined into a single criminal case by the decision of Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.
"We clearly see that the criminal group that operated in the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, the bandits who used weapons against law enforcement officers, and bandits who kidnapped people belong to the one and the same organized criminal group, to the gang which received support, and we reasonably suspect that the funding as well, from the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration top officials. Two of them have been questioned by us," Nalyvaichenko said.
He later confirmed that Korban and Oliinyk were meant. He also added that Verkhovna Rada deputy Denysenko, who stood up for the detainees, is checked for the involvement in the organized crime group's activity.
"The officials, especially of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, are now threatening our investigators to engage the illegal armed groups, the alleged security company 'Sich', in particular. Now we are threatened with the use of these armed men to prevent further investigation and detention of the killers," Nalyvaichenko said.
It should be reminded that the SBU officer was shot down fulfilling the task in Volnovakha on March 21. He was killed during the attempt to detain three trucks with contraband, which were trying to enter the territory of the so-called 'DPR.'
The police was briefed to search for resident of the city of Dnipropetrovsk Denys Hordieiev, born in 1979 in connection with the murder. According to unofficial information, Hordieiev is the soldier of the Dnipro-1 Battalion with the call sign "Advokat" (a lawyer) and a representative of the Dnepropetrovsk Pravyi Sector subdivision.
