 Yatseniuk called on Council of Europe to put pressure on Russia to release Ukrainian hostages

Prime Minister Arsenii Yatsenyuk calls on the Council of Europe to put pressure on Russia in the issue of releasing Ukrainian hostages.

This is stated by Censor.NET citing the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

On Tuesday, the prime minister met with Secretary General of the European Council Thorbjørn Jagland. The parties discussed the priority reforms in Ukraine and cooperation with the European commission "Democracy through Law" (the so-called "Venice Commission") in the matter of the judicial reform completion.

"Yatseniuk called on Jagland to use the entire available capacity of the Council of Europe to ensure that Russia fulfills its international obligations, in particular with regard to the release of illegally detained Ukrainian prisoners and hostages," the statement reads.

The prime minister also called on the Council of Europe to do everything possible to stop the practice of systematic violations of human rights and persecution of the Crimean Tatars in the territory of Russian-annexed Crimea.
