 Situation in the Donbas remains tense. Militants used mortars, tanks and artillery - ATO press center

The situation in the ATO area remains tense as of March 9.

Censor.NET reports citing the ATO press center statement.

The summary reads: "The enemy committed not only provocative attacks on our positions using small arms but also conducted shelling from mortars, tanks, and artillery.

"The largest number of cease-fire violations was recorded at the Donetsk direction. The criminals used 120-millimeter mortars and grenade launchers to attack Pisky, Avdiivka, Vodiane, and Opytne villages.

"The illegal armed groups conducted artillery strikes on our positions at Artemivsk direction near the village of Troitske from 6.20 a.m. to 6.45 a.m. and from 6.50 a.m. to 7.40 a.m. The enemy infantry also tried to storm the ATO forces' stronghold near the village of Maiorsk from 11.35 a.m. to 12.20 p.m.

"The battle near the village of Shyrokyne at Mariupol direction, which started at 9.30 a.m. today, is also still under way.

"The terrorists attempted to force the Ukrainian troops out from the village after having shelled our positions from tank and mortars. All attempts to attack the ATO forces detachments were repulsed.

"The enemy attacked the ATO forces' positions 16 times totally from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 9."
