 UN: 6,000 people killed in Eastern Ukraine conflict

The conflict in the Donbas, which began in mid-April 2014 has killed more than 6,000 people.

This was stated during a meeting of the UN Security Council by UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Šimonović, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainian News.

"According to our estimates, more than 6,000 people have died in Eastern Ukraine," he said.

Simonovic said that since there is no complete information about the number of people killed in the area of the Donetsk airport and Debaltseve (the Donetsk region), and that this data will be updated.

In addition, he said that the mandate of the UN mission on Human Rights in Ukraine has been extended for three months.
