According to the Head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration Hennadii Moskal, previously the only access to the villages has been through Debaltseve, Censor.NET reports citing the governor's press service.
According to the press service, chairman of the village council had fled to the occupied Alchevsk, as did the officials of the village. The people are left without any help and under constant bombardment. During last week, authorized representatives of the General Staff were negotiating with the militants to provide humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from Chornukhyne. The arrangements were made for opening the corridor today, Feb. 10.
"At 7:00 a.m. we left from Severodonetsk for Chornukhyne, but could get only to the intersection at Myronivskyi (the Donetsk region), 15 km from Debaltseve," Moskal said. "Currently this is where the last checkpoint of the Ukrainian security services is. It is controlled by fighters of the Donetsk region police. No one is allowed to go beyond it further down the highway, since Lohvynove, which is close by, is blocked by armored vehicles and manpower of the militants.
"The highway is constantly shelled by Grad and artillery; Svitlodarsk, which we detoured on the way to Debaltseve, is burning. Thus, Chornukhyne and Troitske that were in the center of combat operations around Debaltseve were completely blocked. Evacuation of people is only possible in the direction of the so-called "LPR". The villagers that can move independently are leaving Chornukhyne on foot and going in the direction of the occupied territories. In January we used to bring pensions to Chornukhyne and asked people to move to safe places, as the situation was constantly becoming more tense. However, most people flatly refused to leave. Right now we are waiting in Artemivsk along with the evacuation transport. The situation may change, and we will be able to take the people out. Further developments will be reported later," the governor of Luhansk region stated.
