As reported by Censor.NET, it was announced by Davydova's new defense counsel Ivan Pavlov to Dozhd TV channel. According to the defense counsel, Davydova has written a statement retracting all of her previous testimonies "due to the lack of trust" towards her initial lawyer. Pavlov has specified that the previous lawyer of the mother of seven had promised to appeal the decision to place her into custody but "for some reason did not do it". Initially, the defense of Davydova was represented by Andrey Stebnev, the counsel assigned to her by the state. Among other things, he stated that his client confessed and that she also refused to appeal her arrest.

The change of the defense counsel by hiring Ivan Pavlov who has experience of representing clients charged with treason was announced by the family of Davydova on Feb. 2. The new counsel of Davydova has already appealed her arrest. The resident of the Smolensk region, Svetlana Davydova was detained after she called the Embassy of Ukraine in Moscow and reported a conversation she heard while riding a bus. In the conversation, possible deployment of the Russian troops to Donetsk was discussed. The authorities of the Russian Federation have charged the woman with treason. The charges bear a penalty of 12 to 20 years in prison. Human rights officials who visited Davydova in the detention center reported that she confessed her guilt.
