 EU to keep sanctions against Russia and expand the "black list" of Russian officials and organizations - EU Council

The Council of the EU for Foreign Affairs decided to maintain sanctions against Russia.

This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini after an urgent meeting of the European Council in Brussels on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

The EU High Representative voiced the decision to extend the duration of restrictive measures against individuals and institutions that have been introduced in March last year. They will be extended until September. In addition, the Council also decided to prepare extra suggestions on the inclusion of individuals and institutions to the list within a week. This decision will be made at the next meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in 10 days - on Feb. 9, Mogherini said.

She noted that the EU Council decided to start preparatory work on the European External Action Service and the European Commission regarding further actions aimed at full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Mogherini clarified that the decision to enact the subsequent tighter sanctions against Russia lies within the competence of the European Council.
