 Poroshenko approved reinstatement of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Hennadii Vorobiov

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has approved the reinstatement of Colonel-General, former Commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine Hennadii Vorobiov at the post of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine.

The approval has been signed by the president at the meeting with Chief of the General Staff, Colonel-General Viktor Muzhenko, Hennadii Vorobiov himself and NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Censor.NET reports citing presidential press service.

Petro Poroshenko has reminded that the Verkhovna Rada had adopted the amendments to the Law "On Purification of the Government" the day before.

"Pursuant to my initiative, yesterday the Parliament made amendments to the Law on Lustration that will return experienced, patriotic and professional servicemen to the Armed Forces and to the front. We must have a strong army to fight for peace," the president said. Today, these amendments are to be submitted for his signature.

With his signature, the president expresses full support to the recommendation of Viktor Muzhenko.

"Please start fulfilling your duties immediately. We hope that your knowledge, skills and experience will bring benefits for Ukraine," Petro Poroshenko addressed Hennadii Vorobiov.

The participants of the meeting have discussed the situation at the front and a series of measures aimed at strengthening the defense, especially in the area of Debaltseve.

According to the current information, the situation is stable and intense. Ukrainian servicemen firmly hold the line and ensure the defense of the defined boundaries.

For reference: Col. General Hennadii Vorobiov - Commander of the Land Forces, one of the most experienced and professionally trained generals in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He personally exercised direction of the anti-terrorist operation during his stay in the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He refused to comply with a decree of Viktor Yanukovych on the use of force against the activists of the Maidan. Subsequently he came under lustration as an officer, who served during the ex-president's regime. He was dismissed by the Defense Minister's order issued Oct. 25, 2014.

Censor.NET has repeatedly reported that many military experts have also demanded Vorobiov's reinstatement.
