"A significant escalation of violence has increased the number of victims to 5,086 people, and we are afraid that the real figure may be much higher," representative of the UN Rupert Colville said at a press conference in Geneva.

It is noted that the European Union has responded to another round of violence with a promise to take new steps to pressure Russia, which has painful economic and political sanctions imposed on it by the West, and to provide more assistance to Ukraine.

"If Russia does not fulfill the (peace) agreement, and we are definitely faced with a very serious situation, in this case, I believe we will, at the level of the European Union, also look into the possible additional pressure we can provide," Foreign Minister of Latvia (presiding in the EU) Edgars Rinkēvičs said.
