"According to operational information, which comes from eye-witnesses, the shelling of the stop could have been conducted from several points in the city. A truck with a mortar near the Topaz district fired about three shots in the direction of the Leninsky district (where the accident happened - ed.). The same vehicle was seen in Myrnyi neighborhood where it fired around 10 shells in the same direction. It is possible that it was the same vehicle moving around Donetsk," the prosecutor's office stated.
As previously reported, on the morning of Jan. 22 a shell hit the public transport stop causing casualties. According to preliminary reports, 13 people were killed and dozens wounded.
According to preliminary data, the bombardment was carried out from the so-called "travelling mortar" mounted on a vehicle. Such tactics have been used by the pro-Russian militants to fire at the Ukrainian army positions from residential areas and quickly change positions since summer.
