Interior Ministry considering Monday shelling of Sartana as terrorist act. Criminal proceeding initiated over shelling of Avdiivka

Residents of city of Avdiivka, the Donetsk region, and village of Sartana, the Illichivsk district of Mariupol, have once again found themselves at the illegal armed groups’ gunpoint in the evening of Jan. 19.

Censor.NET reports citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service.

"There are wounded in Avdiivka, several houses were destroyed. The police investigative task groups worked at the scene of the artillery strike to establish the circumstances and to help residents. The information on all facts is added to the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations," the statement reads.

According to the agency, two guards of a private enterprise, aged 24 and 40, were injured in Avdiivka. "The men were taken to hospital with shrapnel wounds," the statement reported.

Avdiivka Main Investigations Directorate initiated criminal proceedings under Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 115 "An attempt to commit premeditated murder" of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The houses and household outbuildings were also destroyed as a result of direct hits.

It is also noted that the police records every fact of destruction or damage of citizens' property.

"The shelling of Sartana village resumed at about 10:00 p.m. The Illichivsk district police department has received three reports on destruction of private homes. The damage was inflicted to roofs and water system. The number of damaged houses and the degree of damages are verified. No casualties incurred," the Interior Ministry states.

Main Investigations Directorate of the Illichivsk district police department in Mariupol opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 258 "terrorist act" of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with regard to the shelling.
