"I am fully confident that in two years, we will not need Russian gas at all. This is a very important factor in energy independence," the president said.
Poroshenko stressed that in six years Ukraine has managed to reduce gas exports from 70 to 40 billion cbm. According to him, measures to increase energy efficiency will produce results.
The president also believes that the Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities with a total capacity of 31 billion cbm may become an important factor in the European energy security.
In 2014, Ukraine has reduced natural gas consumption by 16%, or by 7.8 billion cbm down to 42.6 billion cbm.
