Washington is not interested in confrontation with Russia, but its compliance with all obligations – U.S. State Department

The United States does not seek confrontation with Moscow, as portrayed by Russian media, but relations with Russia built on the fulfillment of all obligations, particularly in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.

Such position was expressed by U.S. State Department spokesperson Marie Harf in Washington on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"The United States and, I believe, our NATO allies do not seek ways of confrontation with Russia," the State Department spokeswoman said. She emphasized that the current relations with Russia should be "based on specific steps that Russia has to make, especially with regard to Ukraine."

Harf clarified that it primarily refers to the Minsk agreement, the implementation of which is simply ignored by the Russian side. The representative of the State Department called for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. "The diplomatic path is always open, and the Secretary of State (John Kerry - ed.) has made it very clear," Harf said.
