The European Union has taken into consideration the suggestions of American financier George Soros concerning the large-scale macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, which he described in his article "A new policy to rescue Ukraine" published by The New York Review of Books.

The EU governing institution spokesperson told Ukrinform in Brussels, Censor.NET reports.

"We have taken into account the idea of Mr. Soros. As you know, the European Commission carries out an unprecedented support to Ukraine and we will continue to work with the Ukrainian leadership and our international partners in order to overcome the crisis in Ukraine, and we will provide all possible assistance," the official said.

He reminded that the European Commission decided to grant macro-financial assistance of 1.8 billion euros to Ukraine today in Riga.

Censor.NET previously reported that Mr. Soros wrote in his article "A new policy to rescue Ukraine" from Jan. 7, that Europe should provide Ukraine with a new financial aid package of $ 50 billion or more. It is possible, particularly, if the European support mechanisms for balance of payments and financial stability, as well as the IMF's lending, European Investment Bank bonds, the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development financing will be made available to Kyiv.
