"In the afternoon of Dec. 31 to there is ice and sleet on the roads in most of the country; in the south wind gusts reach 15-18 m/s. There is remaining danger of avalanches in the highlands of the Ivano-Frankivsk region and the eastern part of the Zakarpattia region," the statement notes.
Over the past few days there has been heavy snowfall in southern and central Ukraine, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Due to bad weather hundreds of towns have been cut off from power supply, thousands of people are stuck in snowdrifts on the roads in the Odessa, Mykolaiv, Kyrovohrad, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
