 Poroshenko is confident that Ukraine will reach NATO standards in five years

Ukraine's accession to NATO membership will be decided in a referendum after it meets relevant criteria.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko considers that it will take at least five years for Ukraine to match the criteria for NATO membership, Censor.NET reports citing zn.ua.

"I have signed the law abolishing the non-aligned status and changing the course towards the Euro-Atlantic integration yesterday. We are starting to take efforts for Ukraine to match NATO membership criteria. We need a substantial period of time to accomplish this. I think we will get the work done in five years," the President of Ukraine said during the transfer of new weapons and equipment to the Ukrainian military.

According to him, after that the Ukrainian people will determine through a referendum whether Ukraine will join the Alliance or not.
