Poroshenko: We will not cut gas supplies to Donbas - we're not Russians

Petro Poroshenko rejects the possibility to stop gas deliveries to the Donbas or exchange it for coal from Donetsk. The president said that the West appreciates civility of Ukraine.

He said during the press conference, Censor.NET reports citing lb.ua.

"Someone would really like it if we said: "Now we will close the valve, cut off the energy, and let them freeze." But look, there are Ukrainians there, and we must not allow them to freeze. We are civilized country, and it is joint position of the entire civilized world that appreciates the behavior of Ukraine, which is radically different from the invader's one, from Russia's," Poroshenko said.

According to him, it is impossible to return Donbas by shutting off gas supplies.

Recall that the Deputy Prime Minister Hennadii Zubkov said that Ukraine has supplied electricity and gas to the Donbas for the amount of more than 1 billion dollars free of charge.

Russia suspended gas supplies to Ukraine in winter twice, in 2006 and 2009.
