NATO respects the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to renounce the non-aligned status of the state and confirms that Ukraine can become a member of the organization if it applies for it, complies with the standards, and adheres to the necessary principles.

This was stated by NATO headquarters regarding the relevant decision of the Ukrainian Parliament, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

"We respect the decision of the Ukrainian parliament. Ukraine is an independent and sovereign state and it alone decides on its own foreign policy. As agreed at the Bucharest summit in 2008, our doors are open, and Ukraine will become a member of NATO if it applies for it, adheres to the standards and the necessary principles," NATO says.
