Europe and the United States intend to use only political and economic leverage over Russia, but any attempts to militarize the Russian Crimean peninsula will not go unanswered.

This was stated by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland during a debate on the Ukrainian crisis at the American Enterprise Institute, Censor.NET reports citing Gordon.

"Crimea belongs to Ukraine. Any attempts to further militarize the region are dangerous and will not go unanswered. We did not choose the path of militarization of the situation. Russia chose a course of military aggression," she said.
