 President Poroshenko Discussed Resolving Situation in Donbas With U.S. Secretary of State Kerry

President Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State.

The president expressed gratitude to John Kerry for his personal efforts in support of Ukraine demonstrated inter alia in the course of the OSCE ministerial session held in Basel, Switzerland, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the head of state.

Petro Poroshenko noted the importance of the resolution of the U.S. House of Representatives, which condemns the aggression against Ukraine. "It is a very strong signal from our partner," the president said.

The U.S. Secretary of State congratulated Ukraine on the formation of the new Government, which now includes experienced reformers.

Petro Poroshenko emphasized that English speaking members of the new Government focused on reforms and the world markets were able to ensure the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

The parties have discussed further efforts for the peaceful resolution of the situation in the Donbas. It has been recognized that in the nearest time it would be essential to hold the meeting of the Trilateral contact group in order to give a boost to the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements. Petro Poroshenko noted that the meeting of the Trilateral contact group had to be immediately conducted to solve the urgent humanitarian problems of the Donbas people, namely the provision of food, medicines, heat and energy. The U.S. Secretary of State expressed support to the position of Ukraine on the expansion of the Trilateral contact group with the involvement of the representatives of the EU and the U.S.

The interlocutors have also negotiated topical issues of bilateral agenda and energy security.
