Poroshenko: Donbas Residents March out Against Terrorists More Frequently

According to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine is taking every effort not to let down the people in the terrorists’ controlled territory of the Donbas.

The president noted in an interview with German ARD that the people in the territories occupied by the militants are starting to realize who actually protects their interests, Censor.NET reports citing the presidential press service.

"The people see that these armed men are conventional thugs. They come to seize, rob, kill, and at the same time they cannot provide basic needs of the people," the president said.

Poroshenko stressed that the residents of the occupied territories are protesting more frequently demanding the bandits to leave their native land. He noted that there is not enough food, water, and heat on the insurgents' controlled territories. The banking system is destroyed and there is no money because of the terrorists' plunder. The president noted that Ukraine is not getting a single penny for the gas and energy supplies, the cost of which currently reached almost $700 million. Ukraine is also sending humanitarian aid of food and medicines.

The president also said that the bandits organized the so-called pension tours when people got their payments on the territory liberated from the terrorists, and then the money was taken by the militants. "We need to hold local elections, restore order, and Ukraine will immediately start paying social benefits: but it will finance the pensioners and not the bandits who plunder arms in hands and seize money from civilians," Poroshenko said. The president stressed that the only possible way to resolve the situation in the Donbas is the armistice, the political process, the elections. "If the occupation forces leave our territory the peace and quiet would settle in Ukraine in 2-3 weeks. Just as it happened in the liberated territories," he said.
