Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Philip Breedlove said that NATO supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and is ready to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Censor.NET reports citing zn.ua.
"We have compiled a comprehensive and realistic program to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," Breedlove said at the press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
He noted that the US assessed the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and all the possibilities for assistance are "filed on the table".
Breedlove said that Ukraine faces serious challenges and the United States is ready to support Kyiv in this difficult time. The global community is focused on assistance to Ukraine and on the search for ways to ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine trough diplomatic means.
"The United States will work closely with the Ukrainian government to achieve fulfillment of all these tasks," he said.
The leaders of Ukraine and Lithuania agreed on cooperation in the military-technical sphere during the meeting on Nov. 24 in Kyiv, in particular, the supply of the weapons components to the Ukrainian military. It was not reported what specific types of weapons Vilnius has promised Kyiv.
Advisor to the President of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko said September that five NATO member states - the United States, Italy, France, Poland, and Norway, agreed to supply Ukraine with modern weapons. However, this information was not confirmed officially and soon Lutsenko himself suggested to understand his words 'in a different way'. The United States, in particular, agree to allocate funds to strengthen Ukraine's defense capability, however, still hesitating to provide lethal weapons.
