"Soldiers of the special forces will carry out a number of specific tasks at the front, including the protection of the OSCE representatives, patrolling checkpoints, but their main task is fighting saboteurs," deputy military commissar of Zaporizhia region Mykhailo Lohvynov said.
"This is our first party of special forces that are going to perform combat missions in the ATO area. Their main task is fighting reconnaissance and sabotage groups in the ATO area," he added.
According to Lohvynov, the unit consists of contract servicemen, most of them from Zaporizhia, although there are representatives of other regions of Ukraine.
Relatives, volunteers, representatives of the church said their farewell to the fighters. Zaporizhia residents gave them a symbolic "order" - "come back with victory, alive, and well."
"Our main motivation is love for Ukraine, determination to protect our loved ones from the enemy, and this is above all fears. We have good commanders who taught us well, and besides, many of us already have combat experience, have already been to the front. We believe that we will win, " says Andrii, one of the soldiers.
The fighters of Sarmat will spend at least 45 days in the ATO area before the next rotation, however, they say they can stay longer: "everything will depend on the task set by the command."
